Keeping Your Balance

A professional and relational community for women holding,
                 pursuing or considering credentials.”

In Running On Empty, pastor Wayne Cordeiro describes his season of enforced Sabbath.  After years of ignoring his “dashboard” warning lights, he was out of gas physically, emotionally and spiritually.   Normally outgoing, he grew resentful, flinching from interaction with parishioners and even staff, hiding out in his office.  His mental focus and relationships were showing alarming signs of wear & tear when a health crisis finally forced the issue.  Humbly transparent, his story posts warning signs for all we busy ministers who are struggling to find our way and balance all the demands on our time and energy.

Balancing ministry and family, time and money often feels like a high wire act.  Any of us could find ourselves falling off the tightrope.  But thank God, He doesn’t leave us without a safety net!  That net includes the Body of Christ showing agape love, the spiritual disciplines lived out by believers through the centuries, and of course, the restoration and healing of the Holy Spirit.

With that in mind, SoCal Women In Ministry is hosting our first-ever conference, “BALANCE”, on Saturday, March 10th at Covina Assembly of God from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm.   Our desire always is to “encourage, connect, & resource” our women ministers, no matter what season of life and ministry you are in, so we have a variety of breakouts planned:

“Balance in Boundaries & Family Ministry”

“Emotional Balance”

“Balance in Spiritual Disciplines”

“Balance in Time Management & Finances”

Executive Presbyter Karla Gutel will emcee a stellar panel discussion on “Finding Your Balance” by women who represent different ministry roles and seasons and ethnicities, followed by round-table conversations where you get to discuss and connect with your peers.  Recognizing that SoCal District is multi-ethnic and multicultural, we will have translation available for Spanish and Farsi speakers.  All this for only $30 ($40 after March 1st and at the door) with morning coffee & lunch included, and we’ll end our time together with worship and prayer for each other before sending you back to your tightropes.

Your WIM leadership team – myself, Barb Gilliam, Renee Nordquist & Jill Valdez – and the BALANCE conference task force – Adelita Garza, Melodee Gruetzmacher, Karla Gutel, Shannon Lemen, Sandy Lopes, Rhoda Nazanin, Jessica Oxendine, & Lety Stepp – invite you to be encouraged, connected, and resourced as we help each other to keep our balance.

Go to www.socalag.org/womeninministry  for registration forms in English, Spanish & Farsi.
